Penn Wood Foundation 2013 Scholarship Students

The Board of Directors of the Penn Wood Foundation wishes to congratulate the following students:
Gabrielle Allen, Kamaal Holly, Inayah Ivey, Tatiyana Johnson-Smith, Amber Maguire-Haupt, Adrienne Thompson, Shonda Walters, and Darienne Robinson.

These fine students were awarded $500 scholarships from the Penn Wood Foundation. Four of the scholarships were from donations received by the alumni of the class of 1962 of the Lansdowne-Aldan High School. Thanks to the generous donations of these alumni, these four Penn Wood High School graduates of the class of 2013 will be able to use their scholarships toward college expenses.

Penn Wood Foundation 2013 Scholarships

The Penn Wood Foundation will award eight (8) Scholarships at the June 13, 2013 commencement in the amount of $500.00 each to graduating seniors. Four $500.00 scholarships will awarded by the Foundation on behalf of the Lansdowne-Aldan Class of 1962. All applications must be received on or before May 20, 2013. There will be no exceptions to this deadline. We encourage you to send it digitally if you can by attaching a copy and emailing it to: bmcfry@wpsd.k12.pa.us. Only a few more days left for our on-line Flower Fundraiser

Please help us out and buy some beautiful flowers for your spring and summer garden while also supporting a very worthwhile organization. The fundraiser ends on April 26, 2013.

5K Run

Do you like to run? Do you like to volunteer? Do you like to be part of an organization that helps support the students of the William Penn School District? We are planning on a 5K run in the fall. If you would like to be a part of it, drop me an email at bmcfry@wpsd.k12.pa.us or president@pennwoodfoundation.org or join us May 7th at 6:00 pm in the Green Avenue Administration building where we will be talking about the initial stages of planning.

Exciting Teamwork

Students from Villanova University have been working with the members of the Penn Wood Foundation to put our organization’s documents in the Cloud using Sales Force. The obtained a grant for us to use the software as a non-profit and have been working on it with us. Thanks to the connection made between Charlotte Hummel, our School Board Director, me, Brenda Fry, President of Penn Wood Foundation, and Timothy Ay, Professor at Villanova.

Teachers and Staff of Graduating Seniors

The June 2013 graduating class will have the opportunity to obtain scholarship money from the Foundation once again this year. Applications will be available by the end of this week on-line and in the schools. Please encourage the students to submit their applications. We have been fortunate this year to double the number from four to eight due to the generous gifts made by members of the Lansdowne-Aldan Class of 1962.

Innovator Mini-Grants were awarded this Spring to…

  1. Ms. Ingraham, librarian at Walnut Street, for her expansion of the library program during the summer. $500.00
  2. Ms. O’Boyle, 6th grade teacher at Ardmore Avenue, to begin a pilot program, Girls on the Run. $1.000.00
  3. Ms. Masciantonio, the co-advisor for the Future Business Leaders of America, to send students to the fall seminar at Penn State University.
  4. Ms. Vandenburg, SPED Coordinator, to purchase an Ipad for her students to access applications needed for their special education requirements.

Penn Wood gives Grant to Autistic
Support Classroom at Evans Elementary School

Mr. McCarry’s Kindergarten/1st Grade Autistic Support Classroom (Evans Elementary School) received a grant from the Penn Wood Foundation. Mr. McCarry purchased puppets for the classroom. Mr. McCarry and his assistants created voices and personalities for these puppets. The puppets added a lot of excitement and energy in the classroom. The students began using the puppets during social skills and language activities in the classroom. They love working with the various puppets in the classroom and practicing their new skills.
